Project Leadership by James P. Lewis

Recently I have been reading this book called Project Leadership by James P. Lewis as part of a course assignment. It has changed my perspective of how to be a true leader. Here are a few of inspirational quotes from the book:

“Leadership appears to be the art of getting others to want to do something that you are convinced should be done. – Vance Packard”

“…many people are officially leaders by virtue of their position in the organization but are not really leaders….Leadership is not a position, it is behavior…leadership is granted by followers.”

“The law of requisite variety says that, in any system of humans or machines, the element in the system with the greatest flexibility in its behavior will control the system.”

“To be effective, the temperament of the leader must either be matched to the requirements of the situation, or the leader must delegate to someone whose temperament does match those requirements if he or she is to be effective overall.”
